Manufacturing Engineer

Manufacturing Engineers are responsible for putting product designs into reality. They take concepts/drawings and write machine programmes and part pathways to physically make the parts.

Engineering is a challenging and rewarding career. From your mobile phone to the furniture you sit on, everything we see and touch around us is likely to have been engineered.

Typical duties for a Manufacturing Engineer

  • create product routings (a recipe guide on how a part will be made)
  • write a machine programme to make the part
  • evaluate workflow processes to identify any opportunity for improvement
  • analyse the schedules, production processes and methods to help the organisation understand existing and future requirements (buying more/new machines)
  • ensure the manufacturing processes conform to regulations and laws
  • keep knowledge up to date with advances in technology and practices to assist with decisions

Skills and Knowledge

 You’ll need:

  • advanced knowledge of engineering science and technology
  • to be thorough and pay attention to detail
  • advanced maths knowledge
  • advanced problem solving ability
  • analytical thinking skills
  • research and development skills
  • to be able to use a computer and the main software packages competently including product design software

 Entry Requirements:

  • a degree in engineering (normally mechanical engineering)
  • a time served engineering apprentice with a number of years’ experience within the industry
