Operator (Wastewater)
Day-to-day tasks
- Operate and maintain the Island’s sewerage infrastructure. This may entail assisting in the maintenance of public sewers, sewage treatment works, pumping stations, private drainage systems and emptying septic tanks, cess pits and other storage tanks
- Undertake confined space activities utilising breathing apparatus
- Carry out routine vehicle checks and maintenance (oil, water, tyres, cleaning, etc.)
- Drive and operate vehicles as directed by the Authority and within its procedures
- Drive and operate small plant and equipment
- Complete appropriate plant logs and vehicle defect reports as necessary
- Complete appropriate periodic reports as necessary
- Participate in the creation of safe working practices and adhere to these at all times
Skills and knowledge
- Awareness of and compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation and Industry standards
- Team player / collaborative working and knowledge sharing
- Have basic literacy and able to complete forms and describe tasks in writing
- Be organised and reliable
- Be familiar with working with Risk Assessments
- Experience of groundwork
- In good physical health and confident working safely in confined spaces
- Possess a good geographical knowledge of the Island
- Working safely with excavation and civil works
