Dance Teacher
Dance teachers share their passion for dance by instructing students in various dance styles, fostering creativity, building technique, and inspiring a love for movement and self-expression.
Day-to-day tasks
- plan and teach dance sessions
- design dance pieces for individuals and group productions
- keep records of students' performance and progress and assess students for dance exams
Skills and knowledge
- knowledge of the fine arts
- excellent verbal communication skills and leadership skills
- the ability to work well with others, be patient and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- the ability to teach pupils how to do something
Industry Qualifications
You can get into this job through a university or college course or working towards this role. You can choose a degree in dance or performing arts. There are some degrees in dance that include teacher training.
You could work your way into this role if you've got several years' experience in dance. You could start as an assistant in a private dance school and do teaching qualifications with a dance organisation approved by the Council for Dance, Drama and Musical Theatre (CDMT).
