Hospital Doctor
What do they do?
Hospital Doctors work to diagnose and treat patients within our hospitals and can work across a wide variety of areas known as Specialties, treating patients with a range of illnesses and medical conditions. Doctors can specialise in areas such as; Medicine - where they could be treating patients who have had a stroke, to patients with skin conditions (dermatology), to Surgery, where they can be performing operations.
Other hospital doctors also treat patients in areas such as Women & Children’s, where they could be working as a Paediatrician, or in Emergency Medicine where they can be treating patients in A&E.

What do you need?
Obtaining a place on a Medical degree course can be very competitive! Entry to degree courses normally require:
9-10 GCSEs at grades A* or A including English, Maths and Science at minimum of Grade B
At least 3 A Levels to include a minimum of two science subjects. Requirements are usually AAA or AAB. Each university sets its own entry requirements so it's important that you check each one to see what their requirements are
You would then need to complete a 5 year degree in Medicine, or if this was to be your 2nd degree, the course would be for 4 years. After your degree you would then complete two years of foundation training before choosing a Specialty and continuing your training in that area
