What do they do?
Paramedics are responsible for responding to emergency calls and examining, evaluating and providing treatment to patients. They assess and diagnose injuries, determine courses of treatment, give medicines and injections, carry out surgical procedures, dress wounds and where necessary, resuscitate. They deal with a range of situations from minor wounds to life threatening injuries or illnesses and provide treatment in the field and en route to the hospital. Paramedics must be able to make quick, accurate decisions regarding a patient's care.
What do you need?
You will need a minimum of 5 GCSEs (A*-C) including English Language, Science and Maths and at least 2 A levels including a science.
You would then need to complete a degree in Paramedic Science or Paramedic Practice approved by the HCPC (Health & Care Professions Council).
