Job Overview: We are looking for a biosciences graduate to join our small laboratory as a Laboratory Technician. In this role, you will perform routine and specialised molecular diagnostic tests, maintain laboratory equipment, and ensure adherence to high standards of quality and safety. This position offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of molecular genetics and environmental DNA testing, and contribute to innovative diagnostic solutions and research projects. The role offers significant hands-on scientific and laboratory training with the potential for professional registration as either RSciTech or RSci.

Key Responsibilities:
- Sample Handling: Receive, prepare, and process eDNA and veterinary samples for molecular diagnostic testing.
- Testing and Analysis: Perform molecular diagnostic tests, such as PCR, qPCR, DNA/RNA extraction, and nanopore sequencing, according to established protocols.
- Quality Control: Preparation of clean reagents using appropriate techniques. Conduct quality control and environmental checks to ensure accuracy and reliability of results.
- Data Management: Prepare batches of samples for testing within our LIMS, recording and maintaining accurate laboratory data. Ensuring traceability and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Equipment Maintenance: Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and pipetting robots, troubleshooting as needed.
- Stock Management: Goods inward for scientific orders, monitoring and ordering stock in an efficient and timely manner to ensure business continuity
- Compliance: Adhere to laboratory protocols, safety guidelines, and quality standards.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with the customer services staff and other scientists, to ensure a seamless customer experience.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute ideas to improve processes, marketing opportunities, new products, and to enhance customer satisfaction.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- 2:1 or higher honours degree (or predicted) in a biological sciences subject
- A proactive and can-do attitude
- Strong attention to detail, even during laborious or repetitive tasks, and the ability to follow SOPs precisely.
- The ability to carry out molecular techniques independently to a high standard
- Strong organisational and multitasking abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Excellent problem-solving skills

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience working within a laboratory
- Familiarity with next-generation sequencing workflows
- Isle of Man worker status
