Receptionist
Receptionists are the first point of contact for visitors to an organisation.
Day-to-day Tasks
As a receptionist, your tasks will depend on where you work.
Duties could include:
- communicate with visitors on phone, email or face to face when making reservations or dealing with enquiries
- be polite, friendly and welcoming to each guest or customer
- Deal with all customers questions and queries
- have a good local knowledge of the Island
- take payments and handle invoices
Skills and Knowledge
You'll need:
- customer service skills
- the ability to work well with others
- to be thorough and pay attention to detail
- administration skills
- patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- excellent verbal communication skills
- to be able to use a computer and the main software packages competently
Industry Qualifications
When working as a receptionist, each employer will likely provide full training on what they expect. As with all hospitality roles you can take this career worldwide as the essential prerequisites is experience. So once you have experience as a receptionist, they are needed worldwide and even at sea on cruise ships! It's even a great start to progressing within hospitality, perhaps even to a general manager role!
